Before KARZAK’s reign, the inevitable intermingling of humans and their giant overlords produced many strange hybrids. A particularly tenacious example of this is the half-oni. Native to Shizamu’s Western wastelands, the half-oni breed true and have survived the 2000 years since KARZAK’s fall, despite many attempts by civilized Shizamu to exterminate them.

Half-Oni are tall, lean, and muscular, inheriting much of their ancestors’ physical prowess but little of their magical ability. Their skin ranges from dark tan to pale white, and their eyes may be of almost any color, though red is the most common. Every half-oni has one or multiple horns located beneath their hairline. In some specimens, these horns are covered by skin, and present an odd fleshy effect growing from their heads, while in other half-oni the horns have broken through and resemble more traditional examples. The hair of a half-oni is commonly jet black, but can range in a number of colors depending on that particular individual’s Oni ancestry.

All half-oni breed true, are relatively long-lived, and particularly hardy, several reasons for their continued survival. Unless united under a powerful leader, they tend to collect in small, nomadic family groups, wandering the wasteland and periodically clashing with other half-oni groups, humans, or anything that looks like it will put up a good fight. Half-Oni have a particular love for strong alcohol, and will go to great lengths to obtain it.

Despite their barbaric lifestyles, half-oni are not notably unintelligent, most individuals being about as clever as the average human. Their violent instincts and love of fighting, however, drive them away from the more sedentary lifestyles favored by the civilized races. A normal half-oni is never satisfied unless it is fighting, drinking, or recovering from an intense amount of either of these. They are usually Neutral or Evil in alignment, but almost always Chaotic.

Ability Score Racial Traits: Half-Oni are physically powerful and possess great endurance, but they lack the capacity for fine manipulation and tend to act rashly. They receive +4 STR, +2 CON, -2 DEX and -2 WIS.
Size: Half-Oni are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Type: Half-Oni are Outsiders with the Native subtype.
Base Speed: Half-Oni have a base speed of 30 feet.
Languages: Half-Oni begin play speaking Common and Giant. Half-Oni with high intelligence scores may learn any language they please.

Defense Racial Traits

Natural Armor: Half-Oni inherit the thick skin and lean musculature of their ancestors. They gain a +1 Natural Armor bonus to AC.

Fast Healing: Half-Oni can heal their wounds at a terrifying rate, allowing them to recover from battles in mere minutes. They gain Fast Healing 1.

Offense Racial Traits

Weapon Familiarity: Half-Oni are particularly skilled at wielding large, heavy Eastern weapons. They are automatically proficient with the Nodachi and Tetsubou.
